Op zaterdag 27 november werd de 14e editie van het Oranjebal London gehouden. In ”Vinopolis”, 1 Bank End, London SE1 9BU, Bankside, tussen London Bridge en Tate Modern, werd de Nederlandse gemeenschap getrakteerd op een veelbelovende avond.
Het Oranjebal, met als beschermheer de Nederlandse Ambassadeur te Londen, Zijne Excellentie Mr. P.W. Waldeck, staat dit jaar in het teken van het Zeldzame Ziekten Fonds. De stichting Zeldzame Ziekten Fonds (www.ZZF.nl) helpt mensen met een zeldzame ziekte. Zeldzaam ziek zijn betekent leven met een levensbedreigende of chronische ziekte, zonder dat er een oplossing beschikbaar is. De groep patiënten is te klein, waardoor het doen van onderzoek of het ontwikkelen van medicijnen commercieel niet interessant is. Door de zeldzaamheid staan patiënten en hun familie er vaak alleen voor.
De avond gaat van start met een receptie met oer-Hollandse bitterballen en champagne. Tijdens het aansluitende drie-gangendiner wordt een veiling gehouden, waarvan alle opbrengsten naar de Bart Foundation gaan. De veiling zal worden geleid door Daphne Deckers & Ed Nijpels.
